He later served as special agent in charge of the El Paso, Texas field office and completed his career as agent in charge in San Juan responsible for Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. The author was awarded the FBI Medal of Valor for action against and armed and dangerous fugitive. In retirement he became active in the El Paso Writers League and won a number of awards in the league's yearly professionally judged contests.
