His graduate studies were in education at the State of Connecticut University System, as well as language studies at Brigham Young University and the SUNY University in New Paltz, New York. Hank was involved in labor relations for teachers as President of The Connecticut State Instructors' Organization. He is currently the President of CSEA\/SEIU Chapter 425 of the Connecticut State Employees Association. He is also a member of The Military Officers Association of America, the Propeller Club of the United States and the Council of American Master Mariners. Working in the Maritime Industry, he was the Captain of Coastal Vessels for Farrell Lines International in Monrovia, Liberia, and Spentonbush Oil Transfer Company in New York City. With the U.S. Navy he served as the Port Captain for the Military Sea Transportation Service in New York Harbor. He was with the State of Connecticut for twenty-four years, as both a teacher and administrator. His military career spanned over forty years, first as a Commissioned Officer in the United States Naval Reserve and then later in the United States Army Reserve, where he served as an Officer with the Army Military Intelligence Corps.
