In 1868-1870 several families from Northeast Alabama moved north to Polk County Wisconsin, homesteading in Laketown Township. This is a collection of research on where they came from, why they moved and what happened to them in Wisconsin. It deals with the Civil War, Slavery, Ku Klux Klan, and the attempt for people of conscience to find a place to live free. Many of the stories are from those who came and their descendants.
