In addition, we will look at the potential for cooperation or competition between the United States and China on climate change and clean energy. As a result of decades of rapid economic growth and industrialization, China has become one of the world's top energy consumers and the largest emitter of greenhouse gases. In order to curb the resulting environmental damage, Chinese leaders have put in place a number of plans and directives with a specific focus on developing a low carbon economy.
