Confession
Confession
I met this boy when I was twelve. His life was totally different from mine. He was raised by a single mother near the beach, where he spent his days surfing and exploring Flagler. I grew up with my cold-blooded parents on the Halifax, behind a gated driveway, wishing my life wasn't already predetermined.
I spent two years sneaking over to his house since I knew my parents wouldn't approve of our friendship. I did this in the hopes that one day I'd be able to choose how I lived my life.
There was an accident when I was fourteen. We were not allowed to see each other again, no matter how badly I wanted to keep him a secret and how badly I longed to see him every day. My parents warned me that disobeying them would have dire implications for him.
Three years have passed; throughout that time, I have watched myself deteriorate without him, falling into a deep despair from which I daily battle to emerge. But then, tragically, his mother passes away, and I suddenly find myself back in his life.
There is only one term that adequately describes our connection. Soulmates.
