Detective Goodtoad's Birthday Surprise is filled with whimsical drawings that illustrate the narrative of this charming children's tale. We meet Albert Goodtoad, a detective who loves to fish, and Jeremy Stoat, who delivers the mail to his neighbors in Quagmire Pond and loves to guess the contents of the packages he delivers.
In this story, Detective Albert Goodtoad receives a mysterious package for his birthday, delivered by Quagmire Pond's curious postal carrier, Jeremy Stoat. Jeremy makes several guesses at clues about what's inside the package before imparting serious damage to Albert's mailbox when he forces the too big package into the mailbox.
Detective Goodtoad loves solving mysteries as much as he loves birthday surprises and, as you will see, fishing. All's well in the end as the Detective solves the mystery, and, though it takes a bit of work, Jeremy repairs the mailbox with a flourish. Albert, with a string of newly caught fish in hand, cheerfully invites Jeremy to his birthday party to enjoy a Fish Flambé Feast.
