Richard Register has been pioneering city design in easily accessible imagery for over forty years and it's all here in his collection of imagery produced over all that time. Ecocities Illustrated represents the very early yet most advanced visual interpretations of "green" or "eco"-cities around. Reader/viewers can see in colorful imagery how cities can be laid out and designed, connected to transport, energy, food and nature here, probably better than anywhere else, in playful drawings that are in dead earnest about the future of cities and the health of the planet.

About the Author
Richard Register is an artist turned city designer and theorist harmonizing cities with the realities of our natural environment and changing their relationship to our unnatural, people-dominated times. His education has mainly been through a 40 year quest reading and traveling the world with the goal of making cities healthier and happier. On international speaking tours, with rich imagery from his drawings and photographs, he has delivered presentations and rounds of consulting in thirty-five countries and counting, and gathering his activist education through on-the-ground, hands-on learning, and through organizing the longest-running conference series on "sustainable" and "green" cities in the world, the International Ecocity Conferences. At these events he has gathered, met and exchanged experiences and ideas with some of the most creative leaders in city design and pretty much all associated fields. He lives in Oakland, California and burns up far too much jet fuel hoping the leverage of ecocity ideas is sufficient to much more than make up for the CO2 released in his quest to help cities help, not hinder, nature.
