Gone Astray

A young kitten is shuttled around, winding up at an animal shelter, where she meets an unusual group of cats, each with a different story. Making friends with one special older cat, they are separated as they begin their own journeys, which are not always pleasant. Longing for a life free of humans making decisions that impact her life, the kitten decides to run away and live the wild life, surviving by her wits. As she makes her way through harsh weather and inhospitable terrain, trying to avoid a number of hostile wild animals who seem intent on doing her harm, she comes to realize that living on her own may not be the ideal situation. She faces rejection and abandonment, encounters some of her former friends, and experiences much joy and contentment in her travels. Her gentle and compassionate nature is uncovered as she copes with and helps other cats, a dog and humans. Told from her viewpoint, much insight into cat behavior and their distinct mannerisms is revealed. Gone Astray is a book about cats, while the humans are secondary characters. About the Author
Linda Marchman has had a relationship with cats all her life. Beginning in elementary school, she began rescuing homeless cats, trying to find appropriate homes for them. She is a self-proclaimed "cat lady" and some may think of her as a "crazy cat lady" but that doesn't faze her. Her love of felines has brought a number of them to spend their lives with her and her husband, Rex. Thanks to her patient demeanor, many ferals and strays have become beloved pets and contented house cats. She believes that all cats can be tamed somewhat so they can coexist with humans.
