Jane Bryant is a courageous women who has helped educate many women and men regarding the unseen wounds of emotional abuse. As one of over 21 million battered women across this nation, Jane discloses her horrific true story and eventual escape from an abusive "non-hitting" husband. Through her story, other women, their families and friends gain an awareness of this unacknowledged pattern of abuse and thereby get help for themselves. Jane wrote "When I attended the domestic violence conference mentioned in Chapter 51, I filled out an inventory, much like the one that follows on page III. Under a section titled "Psychological Abuse," I answered 'yes' to every question. There was no more denying to myself then that I was an emotionally battered woman.
