Every place has a story, born not from the pens and keyboards of historians, but from the people and events that define it. Gettysburg is no different and, in many ways, is much more. Scarred by three days of bloodshed, death and the extremes of human emotion, its well-known history has sculpted the town that now greets thousands of visitors each year. "Living Gettysburg: A Journey on Hallowed Ground" is the story of one man's connection to the historic town and battlefield and how they, in turn, defined who and what he became. It is through the echoes of the past and the power of historic memory that permeate the fields, hills, trees and houses that the author has found meaning and peace. As a child, tourist, historian, tour guide, ghost hunter, documentarian, relic hunter and town resident, Andy Keyser has experienced Gettysburg in a variety of ways throughout his lifetime. His memoir will appeal to a diverse readership. Humorous anecdotes about ghost hunts, nostalgic memories of the historic town, and observations of everyday life in rural Pennsylvania are balanced with a love of nature, personal emotional experiences, and a deep appreciation of the past and the human cost of combat. Civil War buffs, travel book lovers, paranormal enthusiasts, Gettysburg tourists and those who seek personal enlightenment will all have a reason to read this book. Ultimately, however, it is a book about living and the ever-present search for happiness. This is a theme to which everyone can relate.
