About the Author
Joan Rawlins Husby grew up in Washington State's North Cascade Mountains, eager to travel in interesting places and write about the people who lived there. Instead, she became a teacher, then a mom. She raised her two children in Alaska where her first husband, Bob Biggar, built roads and airstrips. After Bob died, she married Hank Husby and moved to Stanwood, WA. Old friend Vera Penz, widow of Dave Penz, became their neighbor and Kako's ambassador. Joan has authored eight YA adventure-mystery books plus a collection of essays called A Logger's Daughter: Growing Up in Washington's Woods. Her historical novel, Heart's Gold, is available on amazon.com. All are set in the Pacific Northwest. The places and people she'd hoped to write about were in her own back yard all the time!
