Livy's ""The Siege of Syracuse"" is a historical account of the siege of the ancient city of Syracuse by the Roman army during the Second Punic War. The book is divided into two parts, which are part of Livy's larger work, ""Ab Urbe Condita"" (From the Founding of the City). The first part covers the events leading up to the siege, including the Roman conquest of Sicily and the rise of the Carthaginian general, Hannibal. The second part focuses on the siege itself, including the tactics used by both sides and the eventual Roman victory. Livy's account is based on both historical records and his own personal observations, and provides a detailed and vivid portrayal of one of the most significant battles of the ancient world. The 1905 edition includes an introduction by the translator, W. F. Masom, and notes on the text. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
