About the Author
Born and raised in southern California, Tim Hovey began exploring the ocean shores and coastal creeks of Santa Barbara at the age of five. After high school, he began work in the engineering field, taking night classes and slowly moving towards an engineering degree. In his early twenties, he realized he didn't like what he was doing. With an outdoor interest in mind, Tim turned his back on the engineering career to begin training as a field biologist in 1990. Tim is currently employed as a fisheries biologist for the state of California. He received his Master's Degree in Marine biology from California State University at Northridge in 1995. Since graduating, Tim has worked as a marine biologist for a marine consultant, a fisheries manager for a non- profit marine enhancement project and as an associate fisheries biologist for the California Department of Fish and Game. He has authored several scientific articles on fisheries topics, including reproductive strategies, spawning behavior, age and growth and exotic species effects on native resources. Tim also regularly contributes to periodicals like Outdoor California, Western Outdoor News and Hunter Education Quarterly. Tim is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys sharing his love of fishing, hunting, spear fishing and the outdoors with his family. He currently lives in southern California with his lovely and understanding wife, Cheryl, and his daughters Alyssa and Jessica.
