Petra's Journey
Petra's Journey
Just a day like many others before, February 24th, 2022.
Petra had finished another quilt for her children and was ready to relax and watch the news.
She was a little depressed today because it was the day on which her Papa
had been killed in Russia 80 years ago. Memories of him had been few and vague and that was more the reason for her sad mood today.
Since she was just a little girl, memories of him were almost none existing.
As the news continued on her TV she heard about a war that Russia had begun against the Ukraine.
During the next few weeks the news about the war became more and more real with pictures of dead people on country roads, apartment houses having been bombed and citizens coming out of basements of buildings where they had sought shelter.
Petra found herself totally moved by what she saw and tears started rolling down her face. She had been there in those shelters, she had felt the walls shake, she had seen the fear on everyone's face...
Yes, Petra was there again, after 83 years.
How WWII had stamped its marks on her soul was undeniable.
As she sat there in her rocking chair thousands of miles away she felt alone. No one in her neighborhood or even in her family would know and feel and understand what had just happened to her. How could they?
According to the advice she had received many years ago from her beloved Oma (grandmother), she started writing her thoughts in form of a journal. The jounalling became a daily exercise for Petra and Petra's Journey was born.
