"Hello, lover." "You're not her. You're not Opal." The True Gentleman burns up the telephone lines searching for the woman who has seen through to his soul. But Opal has left the phone-sex trade, her identity a closely guarded secret. Elusiveness is not a quality her admirer prizes, and in his relentless pursuit of his perfect mate, the caller reveals he is no gentleman. Soon, the Oregon backwoods become a dumping ground for dismembered body parts. While hiking, Paige Rowan discovers a human foot, still wearing a distinctive toe ring, a ring Paige recognizes. She conceals her true connection to the victim from the police and her new lover, an ex-seminarian. Later, when a human skeleton is found on Paige's property, she is terrified. The police are stymied--the bones belong not to a phone actress, but a young man. A complex web of events threatens to topple the life that Paige has struggled to build. A breakaway religious sect, the obsessive search for Opal, and too many secrets and lies collide in a gripping finale set against a rugged landscape that will be forever changed.

About the Author
After teaching elementary school for several years, Cathy Vasas-Brown's thoughts drifted to murder, and in 2001, her first novel, Every Wickedness, was published by Doubleday, Canada. It was nominated for an Arthur Ellis Award for best first crime novel and had people who take blood thinners very worried. Cathy's second thriller, Some Reason in Madness, was published in 2004. Critics have claimed that Cathy "writes a slick, straightforward tale" with a "sinuous plot as here stories gallop to a climax." Writing mentor Eric Wright says, "Vasas-Brown seems to have been born knowing how ... she's her to stay." The Victoria Times-Colonist writes: "Vasas-Brown hits all the right notes." Though Cathy has been described as a writer who "shows a talent for great gore," she has a very soft spot for animals (and she like people, too). Cathy spends quality time with her two cats, Spike and Arthur, and she misses the company of the four felines no longer with her: Sherlock, Watson, Moriarty and Holmes. When not writing, she enjoys traveling, skiing, in-line skating, playing cards, cooking and going to concerts. She has been known to dance as if no one is watching. Cathy credits her late father with giving her a love of music and puzzles. Her late mother blessed her with an appreciation for nature and the gift of storytelling. Cathy's husband, Al, gets an A-plus for simply being the best partner on life-s exciting journey. www.cathyvasasbrown.com www.facebook.com/cathyvasasbrown
