After an inspirational speech and a night of free flowing beer, Alfred Ouellette signs a declaration, "I, Alfred Ouellette... hereby engage and agree to serve in the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force...during the war now existing between Great Britain and Germany...until legally discharged." Life as Alfred knew it was about to change. Based on a true story, The 11th Hour of the 11th Day follows Alfred as he encounters many historical events and people as he tries to survive the horrors of war. But while he is at war, life dramatically changes for his family left at home. With a 1914 population of only 7.2 million, Canada contributed 619,636 men and women to the Great War. When the guns fell silent on Nov. 11, 1918, nearly one in ten of those Canadians had died in battle and 173,000 returned home wounded. Now, as the Centennial of World War I approaches, we must not forget the spirit and sacrifices of those Canadians who secured our freedom.

About the Author
BRENDA RITTER, an award winning author, writer and journalist was born in Canada to a family whose roots were planted in there more than 300 years ago. Her honors and awards include the U.S. Congressional Achievement Award; Outstanding Journalism Awards from the Texas and Houston/Harris County Mental Health Associations; Outstanding Investigative Reporting from the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association and more than 30 Writing Awards from the Texas School Public Relations Association. As a work in progress, The 11th Hour of the 11th Day is a fellowship winner in Concordia University's 2012 Summer Literary Seminar. She is the mother of eight adult children and lives with her husband Thomas in Weston Lakes, Texas.
