The Christian Ethos: A Philosophical Survey

The Christian Ethos is a collection of related articles from several different sources. Some of the chapters have been translated from Troost's earlier book, Geen aardse macht begeren wij (We Desire No Earthly Power). Other chapters are revisions of his lectures delivered at the Central Interfaculty of the Free University of Amsterdam and those delivered at the Reformed Theological College in Geelong, Australia. A lecture delivered at the University of the Orange Free State, Bloemfontein, South Africa in 1975 is also included. As a whole, The Christian Ethos is essentially a popular and preliminary approach to a systematic study of philosophical ethics.

About the Author
Troost, A.: - Professor A. Troost began his professional career as a minister. He served consecutively in the congregations of Vleuten De Meern (five years), Beetgum (four years), Kootwijk (three years) and Rotterdam, where he was minister to the student congregation for five years. Troost graduated as Doctor of Theology on a thesis "Casuistry and Situation Ethics", in 1958 at Kootwijk. He started his academic career as extraordinary professor in social ethics in the Faculty of Economics of the Free University of Amsterdam during 1964. Troost also lectured in the Faculty of Social Sciences, of Economic Sciences, Sub-faculties of Social and Cultural Sciences, Pedagogics and Andragology, and the Central Interfaculty for Philosophy. He became a popular professor and was invited by universities from various countries to be a visiting professor. He is also the author of What is Reformational Philosophy?
