This is a non-fiction historical narrative of one line of the American Cossart family, dating from 16th Century Medieval France to Twentieth Century Illinois. Huguenots, driven from their beloved ancestral homelands by religious persecution, the emigrant Cossarts willingly brave the treacherous North Atlantic in a small Dutch merchant vessel to reach the New World in February, 1663. There they would forge a new life for themselves in an ever changing land full of promise, enormous opportunity and sometimes tremendous hardship and peril. Succeeding generations of Cossarts would continue in leadership roles to help bring into existence and build up a new nation born of Revolution - a nation in which they were destined to help lead the inexorable westward expansion, taming and domesticating a savage and often cruel frontier.

About the Author
Robert Evan Wheatley is very happy to be a husband, a father and a grandpa. Robert retired in 2009 from a successful career as an electrical design engineer for a major supplier of electronics to the auto industry. Retirement has allowed him to pursue full-time, his true passions - genealogy research and writing. This narrative of his mother's illustrious paternal family, the Cossarts, is a product of that passion.
