About the Author

Dan Sachs is executive director of the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Chicago, overseeing the center's education and programming, developing experiential learning opportunities for students, alumni, faculty, and community entrepreneurs, and developing relationships between the University of Chicago and local businesses. Previously, he served as president of Meerkat Advisory, an A-list hospitality and leadership development advisory group, as a professor of entrepreneurship, hospitality management, and service leadership at DePaul University, and from 1999 to 2015 as founder and owner of the Bin36 restaurant group. In the restaurant world, Dan worked with Danny Meyer, Drew Nieporent, Paul Bartolotta, and other celebrated restauranteurs. Dan has a bachelor's degree from Harvard College, a master's degree from the Parisian culinary school École de Cuisine La Varenne, and a doctor of business administration degree from DePaul University. He lives in Chicago, IL.

Janet Scott is a writer and the owner of The Write Place, a corporate communication and academic support company. She worked for many years in journalism and marketing, and taught for twelve years at Wayne State University. She has a bachelor's degree from Harvard College and a master's degree from Eastern Michigan University. She lives near Detroit, MI.
