an Stevenson's education was broad, classical and largely scientific; as such, his own self-imposed struggle in writing is to achieve portraiture and feeling, as opposed to dry description. During his writing Stevenson deliberately holds dear the adage that "Every picture tells a story", and thus his goal is to paint those storytelling pictures in his reader's mind and to stir his characters' feelings in his reader's heart with his words. His beliefs about language development and the potential of early stage learning and its long-term beneficial effects on the ultimate self-direction and self-confidence of any child are based on his own outlooks and experience.
