About the Author
James Robert (Bob) Ross is a native Tennessean, who received his education at Southeastern Louisiana University (B.S., 1962), Columbia Theological Seminary (B.D., 1962) and Emory University (Ph.D., 1969). Besides Tennessee he has lived in Louisiana, Georgia, Alabama, Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky. He is an ordained minister and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. His professional experience includes campus ministry, teaching in colleges and seminaries In 1980 he made a mid-life career shift when he became the Director of the Christian Counseling Center in Mt. Vernon, IL. He has had his own counseling practice in Lexington since 1987. Ross is the editor of The War Within: Violence or Nonviolence in the Black Revolution (Sheed and Ward, 1971); a contributor to The American Family: Life and Health (Third Party Associates, 1986); Baptism: What a Blessing! (2009); Is Gay Good? (2010), and My Marriage Manual (2011). He has published numerous articles in both scholarly journals and popular magazines including The Restoration Quarterly, Christian Standard, and The Lookout. He is a member of the Lexington Rotary Club. He initiated the establishment of the Bluegrass Community Marriage Task Force and served as first Chairman of the Task Force, which is engaged in the development of guidelines to strengthen healthy marriages in the community. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Kentucky Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and is the organization's Past-President. He married Winona Doris Naugle in 1954. Together they have three children: Joy Annette Croucher, Lisa Adele Ross, and Thomas Lee Ross, nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild (as of 2011).
