An wounded and wandering artist returns to his Southern roots after many successful years in New York City and elsewhere. He finds his native land much improved, almost to the point of its finally having joined the Union. He had forgotten the Southern sense of humor (which was his own) and the wild storytelling tradition. He runs into unforgettable and hilarious characters filtering down from the mountains and hills of the Southern heartland. His long homelessness is stilled as his sense of place returns. This is an insightful and side-splittingly funny little slice-of-life tale. In fact, one reviewer named Mavis said, "I laughed my ass off!"

About the Author
In the early '70's, Sandy did syndicated anti-Vietnam and pro-civil rights political cartoons for The News and Observer in Raleigh, North Carolina. Moving to New York for the next thirty years, he illustrated covers for Time, Sports Illustrated, Business Week, The New Republic, Forbes, The New York Times Sunday Magazine and more. Sandy also illustrated more than twenty books. He won more than twenty Citations of Merit from the Society of Illustrators in New York, and was selected to have a rare one-man show there. He was also nominated three times for Cartoonist-of-the-Year in the illustration category by the National Cartoonists Society. After 9/11, Sandy returned to syndicated political cartooning with Cagle Cartoons. The syndicate has 800 papers worldwide, as well as three million regular and unique hits a month on its internet site. Living on his farm in the boonies of Virginia's spectacular Shenandoah Valley, Sandy continues to do political cartoons, illustration and fine art.
