About the Author
Dr. Pamela Paresky is the director of the Aspen Center for Human Development (http: //www.AspenCHD.org) a contributor to Psychology Today online (her blog is called "Happiness and the Pursuit of Leadership" and can be found at http: //www.psychologytoday.com/blog/happiness-and-the-pursuit-leadership), is affiliated with the United States Air Force Academy in the Center for Character and Leadership Development, and teaches courses in leadership and other aspects of human development at Colorado Mountain College and elsewhere. Through her consulting practice, MultiGenerational Consulting Services, LLC (MultiGenConsulting.com) she works with individuals, companies, families, and nonprofits that seek to create optimal relationships and organizations. A featured speaker at the 2012 National Character and Leadership Symposium, Dr. Paresky lectures and leads workshops and seminars on topics that include happiness, legacy, leadership, and the fulfilling life. In collaboration with Dr. Helen Fisher, she examines biologically-based leadership dimensions that include neural and cognitive correlates of leadership. She brings to her consulting the unique insights she obtains from her research. Pamela received her PhD in Human Development and Psychology from the University of Chicago where her work at the National Opinion Research Center (NORC) focused on Flow, relationships, and happiness. Her unique contribution to the field of social science through her examination of happiness in marriage was the finding that "double date night" may be more beneficial than "date night" for marital satisfaction. Her research on meaningful lives, happiness, kindness, and engagement has wide-ranging implications that impact every aspect of life. Before her work at NORC, Dr. Paresky conducted field research in both the North West Territories of Canada where she lived with and photographed the Inuit, and in New York City where she studied the city's Native American population. She later taught college courses in cultural anthropology, and practiced psychotherapy with a philosophical focus. The focus and goal of her current research is for each individual to lead the most fulfilling life possible - a life that matters.
