About the Author
Southern California born author Sylvia Ross is well known within the California Native American community. Early in life, she worked as a cell painter for Walt Disney Productions in Burbank, California. Later she taught school and is the author of two children's cultural history story books: LION SINGER and BLUE JAY GIRL. Her short stories and poems appear in a number of anthologies. ACTS OF KINDNESS, ACTS OF CONTRITION is her first novel and was a finalist for the James D. Houston Award in her home state. Her second novel, EAST OF THE GREAT VALLEY, a book about the Native people and Pioneers in the wake of California's Gold Rush and dealing with Indian genocide, has been accepted by a number of museums. The book ACORNS AND ABALONE is a collection of her shorter writings, poems, and artwork.
