About the Author
Niyoka McCoy was born and raised as the daughter of Leila and Curtis Dixon of Savannah, Georgia. She is a creative writing guru with an extensive and impressive educational background. She is a graduate of Savannah High School, received a Bachelor of Arts in English from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, and received her Master of Arts in Teaching from Mercer University in 2007. She has a Master's and Specialist degree in Reading and is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Education. Niyoka has worked in the field of education for over 13 years. During her career, she has held the title of both teacher and administrator. Her passion lies in helping children reach their full capacity through education and mentorship. She is active in the community and is the co-founder of the Jerry "Smitty" Hampton Foundation, a non-profit organization aimed at mentoring and supporting educational success for minority students in her native town of Savannah, Georgia. Although an English teacher at heart and an Administrator by profession, Niyoka is also an accomplished children's author and speaker. Niyoka has a passion for bringing stories to life in a way that will encourage and educate young people. She understands that children must sometimes deal with difficult issues that may impair their physical and mental capacity. She has traveled the nation advocating for the advancement of students, particularly those at a disadvantage due to socioeconomic status or cultural background. She has done extensive research in the area of multiculturalism and diversity with the aim of finding and delivering resources to female and minority students.
