She holds a Ph.D. in language, literature, and culture from the University of Iowa. Her specializations include urban education, family literacy, African American literacy development, children's and young adult literature, and the scholarship of teaching and learning.Smith, Hiawatha: - Hiawatha Smith is an associate professor of literacy education at the University of Wisconsin River Falls. There, he teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in children's and adolescent literature and English language arts methods. He holds a Ph.D. in Educational Studies with an emphasis in Literacy Education from the University of North Carolina Greensboro.
