About the Author
Lori Davidson recently launched a new business, Cherished Ones, LLC and owns a small consulting business. In 1979, however, she was a college educated high-school teacher, married to an aspiring engineer on the fast track living in the District. The eighties found Lori and her husband waging a priority war between career and family. Eighteen years post-I do's, with no resolution in sight, she left her marriage and the city behind and moved her daughters to small town America. Knowing she could not commit the hours necessary to continue to develop a sales and marketing career, Lori opted to return to the educational arena. As Homebound Instructor for her District, Lori became an advocate for many of her students suffering the effects of a dysfunctional home life. Despite the demands of balancing work and home as a single parent, Lori was determined to find a way to bring light to many of the personal challenges and inequalities she'd faced during her marriage and divorce and as a mentor to her students. Lori resides in a small lake community in NW PA. When not traveling from Coast to Coast visiting her daughters, she can be found on a kayak or lakeside enjoying friends. Maggie Dowling's real work, at least for the unforeseeable future, is acting as caregiver and patient advocate for an aging mother. Her days involve balancing time spent on her home-based computer gig and overseeing her mom's care. In 1960 Maggie attended kindergarten with Lori Davidson and thus began their life-long friendship. Maggie wed a local professional in 1981 and dedicated much of her marriage to supporting her husband's growing medical practice and juggling the activities of their three daughters. In 1996, after years of turning a blind eye to infidelities, lies and the like, Maggie filed for divorce. Shocked by unexpected and overwhelming sadness following the end of her marriage, Maggie set about self-educating in the area of familial issues and the effect of divorce on families. Bucking the standard advice of the psychiatric community, Maggie made decisions for her girls based on a foundation of truth and sugar coating wrongs in their life was no longer allowed in her household. This strong commitment to maintaining a life free of denial is a platform Maggie holds steadfast today. Maggie enjoys spending time with her daughters, playing bridge and traveling. She resides in a small historic community in NW PA with her 96-year-old mother and beloved Yorkie, Fiona.
