About the Author
Conklin, David G.: - A Montana resident for more than forty years, David G. Dave Conklin is a retired park ranger who lives in the Flathead Valley. Although he has B.S. and M.S. degrees in Forestry and Wildlife Management, and an M.B.A., one of his first professional assignments was writing the Montana Historic Preservation Plan (Conklin D., Montana Historic Preservation Plan, 1975) and nominating historic sites to the National Register of Historic Places. As a park ranger, he worked to preserve historic parks associated with people who made the country what it is today. While in Helena, Montana Dave built a log cabin where he lived with his family near the old mining town of Unionville. After retiring he published his first book, Montana History Weekends (Conklin D., Montana History Weekends: Fifty-two Adventures in History, 2002). Dave began gathering family information in 1978 while still working in Helena, Montana, to include local and family oral histories on audio and videotape as well as photos, documents and notes. After retiring he trained as a Broadcast Journalist for the Army National Guard and served two years in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom, where he was awarded the Bronze Star during combat operations. In 2015 Dave retired again, began taking genealogy classes, and started work on his memoirs and family histories. He is a member of the West Valley Genealogical Society, Youngtown, Arizona and splits his time between Kalispell, Montana and Sun City, Arizona.
