About the Author
Jim Cianci is a pilot and aviation enthusiast with over 17,000 hours of flight time. He is an active member in the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association). He started his career in aviation when he joined the U.S. Navy after graduating from the University of South Florida in 1967. He entered AOCS (Aviation Officer's Candidate School) in August of 1967 and upon graduation he was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Naval Reserve. He entered Flight Training early in 1968 and earned his "Wings of Gold" as a "Naval Aviator" in April of 1969. He made two tours to Vietnam flying light attack carrier based aircraft; A4E Skyhawks and A7E Corsair IIs. He left Active duty in August 1972 but continued flying in the Naval Reserve for the next 5 years. He joined Delta Air Lines in April 1973 and flew for Delta Airlines for 32.5 years. He is now retired and lives in the Spruce Creek Fly-in in Port Orange, Florida where he enjoys flying his home built airplane, a Swearingen SX300. He enjoys volunteering his time and aircraft to fly young boys and girls in the "Young Eagles" program.
