About the Author
Stephen is currently Chief Medical Officer at SomaLogic in Boulder Colorado where he is responsible for their diagnostics research programs and the "Wellness Chip". This includes the development of decision-support programs for patients and physicians so they can make the most effective choices with the lowest harm. Previously he was co-founder of Decisionability LLC where many of the methods in this book were developed and tested. Stephen spent 18 years in the pharmaceutical industry where he was responsible for a number of business initiatives, best practices, decisions and drug programs, latterly as VP, Worldwide Head of Clinical Technology at Pfizer Inc. He was also on the National Advisory Council for the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering for 7 years, where he was involved in resourcing decisions for academic research and he chaired the training and development committee. He remains on the faculty for the UCSF-FDA American Course on Drug Development and Regulatory Science where he teaches about the importance of human perception on toleraiblity of risk. He is well known in the field and has authored about 30 publications in peer-reviewed journals, including industry position-papers on proof of concept, surrogate endpoints and evidentiary standards for biomarkers and diagnostics. Steve grew up in the UK and originally qualified as a physician at the University of London, and obtained a PhD in medicine at the same institution. He lives with his wife Elizabeth and twins George and Mia. His older daughters Jessica and Antonia live in Massachussetts and Connecticut.
