Echoes of History: From Valium to Vodka, WWII.
That Hitler's men raided Leo Sternbach's laboratory in Krakow, Poland, trashed it, and stole some active drug. is not by itself of great importance. Hitler, reading that it had anti-fear properties, used it in his troops attacking Poland, calling it "the drug of the Valiant," setting off a string of chases by MI5, Cdn. Army Intell., and even the FBI (unofficially), and, as it got lost by the Nazis, Valium got its name and early fame.
