What if you understood everything in your mind-but struggled to get the words out?
In Finding a Voice, Damian Quinn shares his lived experience of growing up with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD), a condition that affects how language is processed and expressed.
From childhood through adulthood, Damian describes the frustration of knowing exactly what he wanted to say, but finding it difficult to communicate clearly. Misunderstandings, isolation, and barriers to expression shaped much of his early life-but so did resilience, support, and determination.
With the help of organizations such as Afasic, Damian began to understand his condition and find ways to navigate a world built around communication that did not always work for him.
This memoir offers an honest and personal insight into life with a hidden communication disability.
5.0 out of 5 stars. Great read!
I received my book this afternoon and finished it this evening. DLD and Damo's struggles growing up were fascinating and highly informative. It is sometimes an emotional read, especially when Damo talks about his feelings about failing his parents. Damo is an absolute delight to know, and I know his parents would be immensely proud of who he is today! I urge people to read this book and educate themselves on this fantastic job!
5.0 out of 5 stars. It is A most enjoyable and informative read.

About the Author
Quinn, Damian: - Damian Quinn was born in Luton, Bedfordshire, and is the author of the number-one book *Finding a Voice*, a personal memoir about growing up with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD). DLD is a lifelong communication disability that affects a person's ability to understand and use language. During his early childhood, Damian experienced significant difficulties expressing himself. One of his earliest words was "Mimmy," his name for his mother, while communicating with other members of his family remained challenging. Writing *Finding a Voice* presented Damian with many of the same language barriers he has faced throughout his life. Through determination and perseverance, however, he completed the book to share his experiences and help others understand the realities of living with DLD-a condition estimated to affect around two children in every average classroom of thirty. Damian has devoted much of his adult life to raising awareness of DLD and ensuring that people with communication disabilities are better understood and heard. Away from writing and advocacy, Damian enjoys going to the cinema, socializing with friends, playing Xbox games and developing his web-building skills.
