Flight of the Silver Eagle Author, CDR Joseph C. Engel USN Ret.. was age 94 in 2007 when we published his biography. Commander Engel started his military career by enlisting in the Navy in 1931 and in 1937 received his flight training as a Chief Petty Officer. After receiving his wings, his assignments carried him throughout the world and during his time while on active duty, he flew over two-dozen types of aircraft. Flight of the Silver Eagle is a wonderful story for all ages. One of our great WWII Era Pearl Harbor Survivors and decorated Veterans. About the Author
Joe Engel enlisted in the Navy in 1931, earned his flight wings in 1938 and retired in 1961. Among his significant achievements are three Distinguished Flying Cross medals and six Air Medals. Celebrating their 72 anniversary in 2009, Joe resided in Pensacola, FL with his wife Angie, until his death in July of the same year.
