The story is true and is based upon diaries, letters, and recently found recording of interviews made in the - mid 1950's. Francesca also attempted to write a book about her life that was never completed. The manuscript was found in her possessions at her death. Many of the more intimate aspects of this story come from this manuscript. Other sources of material have been collected from relatives and friends that knew her well, and memories of the author many of which he shared with her. By maintaining the styles of this collected information the author believed that it might lend authenticity and realism to this incredible story. The story is about happiness, career, love, fame and the ability to deal with hardships that were beyond belief. Torture, imprisonment, rape, hunger, sickness all found in the world during the time of war, play, a major role in this Francesca's story. It is the tragic story of a troubled woman who never really survived the war in the Pacific and led to her ultimate, tragic and untimely death by her own hand.

About the Author
Born in London in 1933, Charles E. Land-Reeves has spent most of his life travelling worldwide. After completing his education both in the United States and England, and serving unwillingly in the United States Army, he had an international career in industry. In 1986 he returned to England to be close to his elderly father, who was still living with his long-term partner, Phyllis. Both Phyllis and Leslie died in 1990. Charles now lives in the south of England in domestic bliss with his wife. After a lifetime of stimulating international employment and travel, and an eventful private life, which included five marriages, his pursuits are now recreational and leisurely. His hobbies and interests are varied and include travelling, gourmet cooking and entertaining.
