How To Hook A Shyster is a humorous book with a razor's edge. It consists of a compilation of letters written by a fictitious zillionaire, J. Morgan Dumont, III, who has the most preposterous legal troubles imaginable and who is willing to pay enormous non-refundable retainers to attorneys who will take his cases. In his letters, Mr. Dumont presents himself as an elitist egomaniac, despicable bigot, socio-sexual pervert, child hater, wildlife destroyer, misanthropic nutcase, archetypical homophobe and unscrupulous robber baron. He's the man everyone loves to hate. Nevertheless, Mr. Dumont successfully uses the lure of huge non-refundable fees to find lawyers who are actually eager to assist him in such asinine cases as clear cutting the giant sequoias at the Muir national forest, marrying and bedding his rich 89-year old mother to take advantage of an inheritance tax loophole and raiding a trust fund established for his one-eyed son with genetically-fused legs whom Dumont exploits as a "cyclopean merman" carnival freak. The book is a collection of genuine correspondence among Dumont and his lawyers dealing with bizarre, ridiculous problems. Dumont's solicitation and follow-up letters are hilarious, and the real written replies received from his attorneys are side-splitting.
