About the Author
Gloria Miller Allen is what she calls, "a lifer" - meaning she has been drawing and painting her entire life. She was born in Kansas, raised in the mid-west, and has lived in Idaho since 1974. To date, Gloria has been juried into over 55 National and International exhibits, winning her fair share of awards. She has earned signature membership in the American Watercolor Society, the Transparent Watercolor Society of America, Watercolor West, and the Northwest Watercolor Society as well as several state societies, including Idaho. Gloria has been represented in galleries around the western states for over 20 years, including galleries in Carmel, CA; Kayenta Art Village-near St. George, UT; Sedona and Scottsdale, AZ; Santa Fe and Taos, NM; Portland, Sheridan and Salishan along the Oregon coast; Bellingham, WA; and Boise and Idaho Falls, ID. Gloria teaches popular workshops around the country. She holds the self image of being a perpetual student and knows from first-hand experience that giving yourself academic studies, and thousands of hours spent at the drawing board or easel is an invaluable part of being an artist...no matter the lack of or the abundance of a formal art education. She believes art is simply a way of life for many people. In her workshops she makes no apology for pushing her students in academic studies dealing with the basics. Her workshop is very structured and is titled "Power Tools for Powerful Paintings". Gloria also has written hundreds of poems, some of which deal with the creative process and appear in "I Think Therefore I Art". Gloria's own artistic career grew slowly but steadily while raising a family, and being an active member of her community. Art was a hobby in the beginning, but grew into a career reaching in many directions. She is a life member of the Eagle Rock Art Guild in her town of Idaho Falls. She is a charter member and signature member of the Idaho Watercolor Society. She spent 10 years on the steering and building committee that saw the completion and opening of the Art Museum of Eastern Idaho. She exhibits on the national and international level. She served as Artist in Residence in Zion National Park for one glorious month in 2010. She has participated in invitational plein air painting events. She has always been a poet.
