Confused by the increasing darkness and as to why he had not yet bumped into anything, Hallock decided he would have to chance coming up for a breath. Panic set in as his head smacked against a solid surface, opening a gash along his scalp. Still, he had no choice but to keep going and push up again as his lungs felt like bursting.

He became disoriented after numerous hard hits to the head. In a last-ditch effort, Hallock tried to swim back the way he came, but he spun in his panic. Exhaled bubbles gushing around him, he forced himself onward before his face suddenly hit a pile of shale bits and sediment. Wide, stinging eyes detected the faintest hint of light. But his lungs couldn't take it anymore, and he sucked in water.

In the Shawangunk Ridge town of Kalesteen, John Hallock and his friends have finally come to terms with the events of the previous year. After months of physical therapy and healing, Hallock is determined to move forward with his life and secure a future. Following the guidance of amateur archaeologist Norman Attwood, he decides to pursue the mystery of the French Loot, a legend that has circulated in the region for decades.

With substantial evidence indicating that the Loot might be hidden on his extensive property, Hallock, along with Norman, Emily, Trey, and others, embarks on a quest to locate the buried treasure. But they aren't the only ones intent on becoming rich.

As familiar faces from the past slowly materialize, trouble once again descends on the peaceful town. A race for the French Loot dramatically unfolds, and all involved are in danger. With old enemies seeking revenge and everyone vying for a piece of the Loot, can Hallock keep that which is most important to him safe?
