A mangled corpse of a girl is discovered in an isolated part of the Peak District, causing panic throughout the country. Louise Allman, an embattled, determined detective, is challenged to solve the mystery in a timely manner by her predominantly male peers.

She struggles to prove herself amidst the toxic institutional sexism enforced by her grotesque superintendent. To top it all off, another male detective is assigned to her case, none other than the know-it-all department darling, Gregory Goodrick.

A man referring to himself only as "The Komodo Dragon" offers to help them with their dead-end case under strict conditions. He entices them through a horrific story of an elite, sinister cabal known as "The Network," who are linked to the girl's death.

Anecdotes of rape and mutilation, along with other brutal, abominable stories, make it difficult for both detectives to determine if there is any truth behind The Komodo Dragon's words or if it's a far-fetched fantasy. You, the reader, are the one who must decipher this disturbing crime thriller.
