About the Author
J. Archer Harris received his BS in Mathematics (with honors) from Denison University in 1973 and his MS and Ph.D. in Computer Science from SUNY at Stony Brook in 1975 and 1978. He currently is an associate professor of Computer Science at James Madison University where he has taught since 1985. His interest include operating systems, UNIX, networks, and computer science education. Dr. Harris has also taught at Southern Illinois University and his consulting activities have included working with Tandon Corporation, the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, BDS Corporation, TransAmerica Telemarketing, and Shenandoah Electronic Intelligence. John R. Cordani received his BS in English and Education from the State University of New York, College at New Paltz in 1969 and his m.Ed. and Ed.D in administration and computing from Teacher's College, Columbia University in 1983. He currently is an associate professor of Computer Science at James Madison University. His interests include operating systems, databases, and information security. Dr. Cordani has also taught at Eastern Michigan University, Adelphi University, and Baruch College of the City University of New York. Dr. Cordani has served in the United States Army, Army Reserve and National Guard as an Intelligence Officer in the area of computer information systems. Dr. Cordani brings extensive experience in working with, designing, and operating systems in both education and government to the creation of this book.
