Should a Scientist Believe in God?: Modern Physics and Religious Belief

Why is there a universe? Is there free will? Does truth exist? What can we perceive and know? What are we? Why are we here? What are we for? Can we know God? Physics has implications for some fundamental questions of metaphysics. In this essay, the most important findings of the modern natural sciences are taken as the starting point for answering them. Using the example of astrophysical cosmology, the limits of today's realistic natural philosophy are explained. It is shown that faith in a transcendent, timeless, God, who continues to work creatively in the world, not only does not contradict this world of natural science, but supplements its explanation in the most reasonable and meaningful way.
