About the Author
Mora, Jill Kerper: - Jill Kerper Mora is Associate Professor Emerita from the School of Teacher Education at San Diego State University. Dr. Mora's 35 year career as a biliteracy educator began in Texas where she was an elementary bilingual teacher, a secondary Spanish teacher, a consultant for the Texas Education Agency's Region IV Service Center in Houston and a university teacher educator specializing in preparing teachers for work with culturally and linguistically diverse students. Dr. Mora has been a teacher educator specializing in preparing teachers for culturally and linguistically diverse classrooms for over 30 years. Her research and scholarly publications focus on effective practices for developing Spanish/English biliteracy in dual language programs. She is also active in political and policy analysis. In 2009, Dr. Mora received the Promoting Biliteracy Award from the Two-way California Association for Bilingual Education for her strong advocacy for educational equity for language minority students. Before beginning her tenure at SDSU in 1994, Dr. Mora resided in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico where she founded and operated her own consulting company, Realizaciones, S.A. From 2003-2005, Dr. Mora served as Resident Director of the California State University system's International Program and Bilingual Teacher Credential Program in Querétaro, Mexico. During her tenure as Resident Director in Mexico, she was co-researcher of a comprehensive study of the Mexico National Reading Program. She brings an international perspective to the arena of Spanish language and literacy education. She also received the California Association for Bilingual Education 2002 Award for Excellence in Research and Scholarly Activity for her MoraModules Website for biliteracy and English Language Development educators. In her active retirement, she continues to work as a consulting author with Benchmark Education Company and teaches courses for the Dual Language Certificate Program for the SDSU Department of Dual Language and English Learner Education.
