Stags and Hens premiered at the Everyman Theatre, Liverpool, in October 1978. This edition was updated to coincide with the Liverpool Royal Court's production in February 2008, and includes a new introduction by the author.

His novel, The Wrong Boy, was published to great acclaim in 2000.
