About the Author
Born and raised in Southern California, Lori Mertz currently resides in Salt Lake City, Utah with her four-legged companion (and Zen-master) Engelbert Oscar Hummingbird aka 'Bert.' Her studies and inquiring mind have taken her from Southern California to Arizona State University to Boston, Massachusetts to a class-room in the Shivagakomarpaj Traditional Medicine Hospital in Chiang Mai, Thailand, to the Himalaya in Nepal, to a 16-week journey across India and to Salt Lake City. For over 20 years Lori has worked in Utah as a production manager and production coordinator in the film and entertainment industry. She has also been a practicing licensed massage therapist since 2003 and a passionate life-long volunteer for many organizations including those that support foster children, the homeless, U.S. veterans, brain injury and disaster relief. Lori's credentials and expertise also come from extensive personal field research from both planned and unplanned surgery including: a partially severed Achilles tendon, open-heart surgery, an emergency appendectomy, reconstructive knee surgery (each knee), a traumatic brain injury and back surgery. She has also worked as a patient advocate for family and friends and continues to learn and grow from ongoing conversations with doctors, nurses, physical therapists and patients. With all she has learned from her studies, travels and her own surgical and healing experiences, Lori hopes the information and stories shared through her work will support and encourage others as they prepare for, undergo and recover from surgery, trauma or illness, back to their state of perfect health and wholeness. "I want to touch, move and inspire others as so many have done for me. If we are here on planet Earth on purpose, for a purpose, then with my life experiences, this is one of mine-sharing what I've learned to help, support and empower others going through similar experiences. Here's to paying forward all that my experiences, doctors, therapists and healers have taught me over the years."
