About the Author
Mary Adelaide Mendelson (1917-1997) was a nursing home consultant to the Federation for Community Planning of Cleveland for ten years prior to the publication of "Tender Loving Greed." A native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, she held a B.A. from Radcliffe and an M.A. in political science from the University of Michigan. She was one of the few private citizens asked to appear before a closed session of the Ways and Means Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives. She also testified before the Senate Subcommittee on Long-Term Care; and worked with the Subcommittee on Government Operations, as well as with Health, Education, and Welfare (now HHS). With the initial release of "Tender Loving Greed," she received accolades worldwide for her efforts to protect the elderly. She continued to testify in Washington; and was continuing her researches into the long-term care system up to her death.
