About the Author
Herring, Jr. Charles: - Charles "Chuck" Herring, Jr. is a partner in the law firm of Herring & Panzer, L.L.P. Since 1985, he has been Board Certified in Civil Trial Law. For many years he has practiced primarily the law of lawyering-handling legal malpractice cases, and dealing with a vast array of legal ethics and professional responsibility issues, including advising lawyers, law firms, government entities, and clients. For over 25 years he has been the author of Texas Legal Malpractice & Lawyer Discipline (ALM rev. ed. 2015). He is coauthor with Professor Alex Albright of Handbook of Texas Discovery Practice (West Group rev. ed. 2015). The Texas Supreme Court has repeatedly appointed Chuck to its task forces and committees, including as Chair of the Statewide Task Force On Sanctions, and as a member of the Texas Supreme Court Advisory Committee, and a member of the Texas Supreme Court Grievance Oversight Committee. Chuck also has served on several State Bar of Texas committees, including as Chair of the Committee for the Prevention of Legal Malpractice. For many years, Chuck has taught at the Texas Center for Legal Ethics, instructing new lawyers on avoiding malpractice and grievance. Chuck also received the First Annual Professionalism Award from the Texas Center for Legal Ethics and the Travis County Bar Association. Before founding his current law firm, he was a litigation partner at Jones Day Reavis & Pogue. He is an Honors graduate of the University of Texas School of Law, and clerked for United States District Judge Owen D. Cox.Panzer, Jason: - Jason Panzer is a partner in the law firm of Herring & Panzer, L.L.P. For over 15 years, he has focused his practice principally on the litigation of professional and legal malpractice lawsuits, and consulting with both lawyers and clients regarding the ethical duties and responsibilities of lawyers in Texas. In 2010, he was named Texas Super Lawyers Rising Star in the area of Professional Liability Plaintiff by Thomson Reuters, printed in Texas Monthly Magazine. Before joining Herring & Panzer, L.L.P., Mr. Panzer was with the law firm of Knisely, Prehoditch & Panzer, P.C.
