Bert Sterling, sheriff of Harlan County, becomes involved in solving the story behind the cross, and also finds that it was responsible for preventing a multimillion dollar bank robbery that was planned to steal monies placed in the bank by Eastern Kentucky's most notorious drug dealer, Pretty Boy Maggard. Even the sheriff's cat, Preacher Puss, gets in on the action. The author's cast of characters exhibit mountain humor at its best. One reviewer of the book stated, "The book is great.
