About the Author
Simon Hepworth has had an abiding interest in the history of Bomber Command since learning, as a child, of the disappearance of his mother's uncle on operations. Once the internet made research into such matters much easier, he investigated the loss of Sgt. Pete Gosnold and his crew. Once he had established what became of them, he set out to write the history of Sgt. Gosnold's unit, 514 Squadron. The result was two books. Striking Through Clouds took the squadron's Operational Record Book, transcribed by Andrew Porrelli and added details of every casualty suffered by the unit. He then wrote a narrative history of 514 Squadron, Nothing Can Stop Us, including personal memories and accounts contributed by Harry Dison who completed a tour of ops with the outfit in 1944. The book is the definitive account of the unit's war. Simon Hepworth's first novel, Late Shift, is a satirical paranormal detective crime drama, representing a whole new genre which is intended to confuse librarians, who would not know which shelf to put it on, after one of their number told him to be quiet in his local library. Once again, the librarians had the last word; as a work of fiction, the book was filed under H. Married to the immensely long-suffering Mandy and with a son, William, Simon Hepworth has a day job, managing the deployment of helicopters and getting annoyed when they break down.
