About the Author

Peter Whelan was born in the Potteries in 1931. His plays include Captain Swing (RSC The Other Place, Stratford, 1978), The Accrington Pals (RSC Pit, London, 1981), Clay (RSC Pit, London, 1983), The B right and Bold Design (RSC Pit, London, 1991), The School of Night (RSC The Other Place, Stratford, 1992), Shakespeare Country (Little Theatre Guild, 1993), The Tinderbox (New Vic, Newcastle-under-Lym e, 1994), Divine Right (Birmingham Rep, 1996), The Herbal Bed (RSC The Other Place, Stratford, 1996, West End and New York.
