The Frog Surgeon: A tale of two scientifically-minded teenage brothers and their experiments. The story is set in the deep south in the era of the cold-war, the space-race and the science fair. The brothers, Attis and Billy Claiborne, discover, in the attic of their old house, some ancient medical textbooks and two crates of antique surgical instruments. Together with Cecil Biggs, a black friend who lives nearby (and who is every bit as caught up in science as they are), they steal a can of ether and set themselves up as surgeons. They begin with frogs. They don't end there.
