It usually takes a crisis to ignite real change. And COVID-19 is arguably the biggest crisis of our lifetimes. This book is a wake-up call that the urgency is now. Associations are being disrupted, competition is increasing, member expectations are growing and government policy is changing. The relevance of associations is under threat. Omer Soker explores a 6-Step Roadmap to progress, change and influence.1) Disruption - Associations must evolve if they are to survive and thrive into the future.2) Mission - Create and communicate absolute clarity of purpose to engage members. 3) Governance - You cannot be a modern association without a contemporary board.4) External Strategy - A businesslike approach is required to succeed commercially .5) Internal Alignment - Look inward for solutions to your greatest challenges. 6) Future Focus - The future is dependent on the decisions you make today. About the Author
Omer Soker is an association futurist and strategist. Omer has a track record of delivering transformational success for both associations and corporates, and is the author and founder of The Future of Associations as a 6-step roadmap to progress, change and influence. As a professional speaker and consultant, Omer energises association boards and executives with strategies for effective and sustainable growth. He ignites positive behavioural change with staff training workshops and inspires conference audiences with thought-provoking insights. Omer helps associations tackle disruption and change, refine mission and vision objectives, modernise board and governance structures, accelerate external strategy and influence, increase income diversity, engage and grow membership, align internal resources and culture, and develop a sustainable future focus. Most recently as CEO, he led an industry association to influence government to overturn a decision in favour of members, negotiate and resolve a member action group's concerns, win a major commercial battle against a global competitor, broaden the membership to position for growth, launch an online resource to link members with buyers, start an industry knowledge-bank to spread best practice, implement a strategic acquisition to diversify the association, and help the president to reform the constitution and modernise the board structure. Omer has also held senior management roles at global multinational corporations, and transformed two companies with change management remits, growing them by 136% and 30% respectively within two years. Born in Turkey and raised in England, Omer worked in Hong Kong before moving to Sydney. He enjoys cycling, meditation and walking along Sydney's beautiful inner city bays with his wife, Siobhan Jordan.
